No one except Hitchcock wanted Day for the part which now seems incredible. Producer Herbert Coleman didn't know she could act and wanted anyone but Doris.
I'd even forgotten that she was Doris Day. The only other scene I remembered of it was James Stewart climbing out of the bell tower.
